Blogging, Episode 4: A New Hope

A long time ago in a country far, far away from Singapore1), a young student called Jonas Wagner decided to start a blog. It was a time of travels, discoveries and changes; lots of interesting experiences merited to be covered. As the weeks went by, however, the frequency of posts dropped, the enthusiasm faded and the motivation diminished. Anxious wispers were heard: will this blog die?

The answer is no. I’m still convinced that there is a trace of wisdom to be found in my life, interesting bits and pieces here and there, which can make this website an enriching one. Sometimes it’s good to set goals. Creating a blog that contains more than just trivia is one of mine.

So here’s my personal lesson for today. It started at 1am, when I was lying awake in my bed, unable to sleep, thinking of Pirates and Ninjas, a little game on Facebook. Was there a way to win this neverending battle, or was the game just about chances and luck? Later in the morning, I had some free time, started my computer and wrote a small programm which would calculate all the odds about dice rolls, bonus factors and gold. If you are interested in all this, you might want to have a look at the game or this table of winning chances… but rest assured that there is no foolproof way to get rich ;-)

However, the process of coding and pondering over game rules for the sake of a few experience points made me think of time and goals again. Was it worth to spend so much time on a stupid game? Will the world change if I’m a Samurai Ninja instead of a Night Creeper? I guess we sometimes don’t think enough about the worth of what we’re doing. But finally I did… and swoosh, the application is removed; I’m no longer a Ninja, free again.

Have a worthy day!

1) No, this post is not about Star Wars… but if you want to refresh ancient memories, consider having a look at Star Wars ASCIImation.
