Fernweh

Fernweh… a word difficult to translate into English. Leo proposes “wanderlust” (as if that were English :-)) or “itchy feet”, but for me it’s more about dreaming, being a bit melancholic. That’s how I feel at the moment…

Yesterday I met Angie for the last time in a long time. She has finished her internship in Nove Hrady and is probably still in the plane home to Mexico as I write this. Saying goodbye is a sad thing, but I’m even more glad to have met her again.

The last two hours, I read blogs from people in China, Afrika, Singapore… Despite the national day celebration tomorrow, I don’t feel very Swiss at the moment. Even shopping reminded me of elsewhere: I went to Berne at seven pm today. All shops were already closed (now that’s Swiss) except the Migros at the main station. It was crammed full with people because tomorrow is a public holiday. I saw many people with surprised faces, somebody on the phone telling her friend how long it would take to queue… anyway, I thought of FairPrice at Jurong Point on a Saturday, and didn’t find it stressful at all ;-)

Going abroad really changes people…
